Liz Catton
Liz Catton is a highly regarded family lawyer and Accredited Specialist, consistently recognised in Doyle’s Guide as a Leading Family and Divorce Lawyer on the Sunshine Coast since 2018. She is known for her clear, strategic advice and her calm, compassionate approach to supporting clients through complex family law matters.
With more than two decades of legal experience, Liz has practised extensively in family law across Central and South East Queensland since 2004. She has significant expertise in property settlements, parenting matters, and complex financial disputes, and is trusted to guide clients through both straightforward and high-conflict matters with confidence and clarity.
Before specialising in family law, Liz practised in commercial and corporate law in Brisbane. She was the Principal Lawyer on the team responsible for significant legislative reform, including drafting the Water Act 2000 (Qld), and has also worked in-house with the National Australia Bank and the Australian Banking Industry Ombudsman. This broader legal background provides her with a strong commercial perspective, particularly valuable in complex financial and property matters.
Prior to establishing Catton & Tondelstrand Family Lawyers, Liz was the Co-Practice Group Leader of a large family law division within a national firm. She brings this depth of experience and leadership to every client matter.
Liz takes a practical, solutions-focused approach, with a strong emphasis on resolving disputes efficiently through negotiation, mediation, and arbitration wherever possible. She is also a skilled and confident litigator, providing strategic representation when court proceedings are required.
Clients value Liz’s ability to listen carefully, understand their priorities, and provide thoughtful, well-considered advice during what can be an overwhelming time. She is committed to helping clients feel informed, supported, and confident as they move forward.
